There are several reasons youth can be motivated to take action for being socially responsible one reason is by become a big brother or big sister to help children, just because they want to make a difference or because some youth may know how those children feel and want to help them. Another reason for youth to be motivated is that draws can be held for doing community work, for example for every five or ten hours your name will be put into a draw for a prize donated by the community for helping. Also another reason is school credits, high school students need volunteer credits and that may motivate a lot of youth to participate in volunteer activities, and some might even like it so much that they will motivate more youth to get involved to.
My personal take on social responsibility is that more youth need to be more socially responsible because it motivates others to be socially responsible, for example, if a teenager is volunteering not just other teenagers might volunteer, but others because if they see a teenager being socially responsible then they can do it to because teenagers have a bad reputation for being lazy. Also I think that some people just don't care about being socially responsible, but it is possible to have fun, for example me and my friends had a car wash to raise money for charity, and we had music and had water fights it was so fun and we did it all while being socially responsible.
To get my self motivated is to having fun with my friends, school credits, and just helping in general I know I am not really socially responsible but I could be, I would like to motivate my friends to help motivate myself and have fun to help people. I am not much of a leader, but in a group we can lead each other especially my friends, so i think if we really wanted to we could influence and motivate more youth to become socially responsible.
To me there are several issues that are important to me, on is our community more youth need to get involve in the community, because there is a massive lack of socially responsibility in my community, also people who do not want to be social responsible or people who just don't care should have more respect for people who are being socially responsible, for example my baseball team was raising money for provincials, and some kids were stealing some of the money we raised, and finally the motivation to be socially responsible should be higher, people who need help for anything can just go to the school and ask for volunteers and it is most likely they will get some.

Peace Heros- Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was an African American civil rights activist, and she was later called the mother of the modern day civil rights movement. Rosa Parks is inspirational to me because she is a woman, who have had a hard time getting rights as it is but she was also African American, and she had to deal with racism. Rosa Parks started her journey by refusing to give up her spot on a bus to a white passenger, after a long day at work, and she was arrested. After that she started a bus boycott with Martin Luther King. she got all the black people living in Montgomery to refuse to use the bus, and many of them including Rosa Parks were harassed and intimidated but the protests continued. Eventually after 13 months the bus company was forced to give in to their demands, because of loss of revenue.
Rosa Parks moved to Detroit and became a special assistant to Democratic Congressman, John Conyers. Rosa was starting to become quite popular, in 1987 she founded the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development, which helped the young and educated them about civil rights, she also established an annual Rosa Parks Freedom Award, and won many awards her self including, the Springar medal, congressional gold medal, and a statue was put up of her.
Rosa Parks is mostly inspirational to me because she did not give up, even when she was arrested, also she continued with being a civil rights activist after she won the boycott, finally because she is a woman and its great to have women out there making a difference, making up for what we lacked during the time when women had no rights.
The next inspirational peace hero i would nominate would be Lester B Person because he was Prime Minister of Canada and he use his authority for good, for example, it is said that he gave Canada the identity that it has today, he was the first to propose a peace keeping force in response to the Suez crisis in Egypt in 1956. He also achieve many things for Canada including health care and our Canadian flag.
In 3rd place of who I would nominate as a peace hero would be John Lennon because he was not only apart of a music group but he also had time for peace. He staged anti-war art, he announced he would not get out of bed until the U.S.A withdrew from the Vietnam war, and he dedicated many songs to peace or anti-war movements.
In conclusion there are many peace hero's out there but the one that stand out for me are Rosa Parks who demonstrated that you can accomplish what you set your mind to no matter your race or sex. also Lester b person our very own prime minister who was the first to establish a peace keeping force and gave Canadian the reputation of peace keepers, and finally John Lennon, being part of a famous music group decided to prove a point through his music and put out his ideas.

Militainment
I never really thought about how the military and the war were being made entertaining by the media, until I watched militainment inc. Now that I am aware of it, I can see it every where, from movies such as Top Gun or Saving Private Ryan to commercial adds or video games. In my opinion and according to this film, the media is trying to make war seem better than what is it, they exaggerate the story, and they create an image almost beautiful, I think this because in movies or on the news a helicopter in front of a sun set is a beautiful sight and it draws people in. Also ridding in one of the military fighter planes has become a necessary past time, along with fire power, the bigger, the more powerful, the better, now isn't that kind of encouraging war? kind of like the worship of weapons as you could say it. Do you know what else bugs me is the fact that people can sit on the couch and watch war on the television like they are watching the Oscars or their favorite TV show, ( this is war people are dieing). I think people have not realized that war is slowly become apart of our every day lives, and lots of people are encouraging it. Encouraging war can be underestimated, for example movies and toys are a big ones but also reality TV shows play a big part in recruiting for the war and entertainment that people enjoy like, the reality show boot camp or war games.
what surprised me about this film was that war can actually take the form of entertainment, and that the pentagon encourages it. Also at the beginning of the war on Iraq the pentagon released a trailer called behind enemy lines, and the government actually made taking pictures of the coffins of dead solders coming back to America illegal, in my opining the government did this because they didn't want to show that they weren't doing so good with the war. But importantly some thing from the movie came to be an interest and that was what one reporter talked about a reporter who died while following soldiers around in Iraq from a blood clot, and that reporters pay the ultimate price. Seriously just because they go and risk their lives to get us footage that isn't necessary all true, does not mean they make the ultimate sacrifice. I would say the soldiers do because they are the ones engaged in battle they are the one who fight for their country and they are the one who have a great chance of being killed.
what scared me about this film was that the reporters talked about how beautiful the bombs and explosives were and how mesmerizing it was, also while one reporter was doing a tour of a war craft he was excited, happy and thrilled, to be inside and touring it.
what also scared me was that songs and singers like Toby Keith are pro war and Toby Keith was named king of war the movie sound track.
overall I think I learned a big deal from this film like war becoming a part of the entertainment industry, the media uses propaganda to persuade people to think what they want them to think, and everything is basically exaggerated. Mainly that war and the military is becoming more of fun entertainment than what it was, and many people are involved in it, making it truly militainment.

Top Ten Peace Culture List
When filling out the information between violence and peace I found that it was much easier to fill out the violence side more than i could the peace side because i filled more out on the violence side than on the peace side. There was a big difference, for some questions on peace I couldn't even think of any, while on the violence questions I could fill out basically all of them, and i was really surprised at how much I didn't know about peace while I knew a lot more about violence. I know that our society today sends messages to our youth through TV, video games, moves, etc, i know this because I have seen them and watched some of them but i don't think i do violent this but know that i think about some thing i do can be violent, but not in a really bad way. These messages cause violent influences on people to to do things even though they don't even know what are doing it because we've seen it around us and so we think it is ok and we all want to be "cool".These messages of violence influence our every day lives, from watching a fight in school or even playing guns between friends, but not all the time will turn out just to be just fun. have you ever so some violence but didn't even think it was violence so you didn't even really care? Now we could stop all the wars between people and countries but I don't think that would mean their will be peace between them because there will still be resentment and feelings of bitterness and therefore they will have just stopped fighting, but not at peace.

me, myself, and I
Hi, my name is Steph Gould, I'm taking peace and youth culture 12 because I am curious about what this course is about and I'm hoping it will bring me more knowledge about what is happening in our world today.
I am currently in grade eleven at Salmo Seconday school and I am undecided about what I want to do in my future, I do know that I want to attend college or university, just trying to figure out the right path I want to take. I enjoy playing basketball, volleyball, baseball and snowboarding. I live just out of Salmo with my parents and my little sister, we have two dogs named buddy and jake and one cat named kit-kat, and as a family we love to spend our time outdoors.
I am looking forward to what will happen in this course.
